The FM Area Foundation encourages and nourishes the giving spirit in the community. Founded in 1960, the FM Area Foundation serves Cass County, North Dakota, and Clay County, Minnesota, by helping people give back to the causes they care about and ensuring the needs of the community are addressed now and in perpetuity. Working in partnership with individuals, families, businesses, and professional advisors, the FM Area Foundation manages more than 400 charitable funds and provides grants to qualified and effective nonprofit organizations and causes. The FM Area Foundation grants over $6 million annually, and today, manages $100 million in assets and has granted more than $60 million since its inception to create stronger, more vibrant communities.

As the community foundation, their mission is to make Fargo-Moorhead a better community by promoting philanthropy, building partnerships, and serving as a trusted resource. “We want to help our community members maximize their philanthropy so that it’s a simple and rewarding process,” says Eric Wilkie, who’s worked in the nonprofit sector for 20 years. The FM Area Foundation is accredited by the Community Foundation National Standards Board. The National Standards ensure the values of community foundations are demonstrated through their commitment to legal compliance, philanthropic best practices, and excellence that benefits communities.
