Carson Wentz’s father, Doug Wentz, a mortgage loan officer at the Bismarck BlackRidgeBANK branch, was instrumental in helping the company connect with Carson Wentz for the endorsement agreement. Once Carson Wentz was drafted and started looking at potential sponsorship deals, Doug Wentz offered to work out an agreement between his son and employer. The endorsement provided BlackRidgeBANK with an opportunity to enhance its brand around an NFL player who makes family, faith and hometown roots a priority.

“He’s known locally as someone with high moral values and strong faith,” Anderson said. “He’s well regarded, very professional, extremely polite and respectful. He’s a dependable athlete to partner with. More than that, his values align so well with those of our bank.”

With the endorsement, BlackRidgeBANK is giving away NFL licensed autographed Carson Wentz Eagles jerseys to the first 200 clients who close a secondary-market first-mortgage loan with BlackRidgeMORTGAGE from August to December 31, 2016. When BlackRidgeBANK signed the endorsement agreement with the rookie earlier in the season, they didn’t predict the No. 2 overall NFL draft pick would become starting quarterback of the Eagles within weeks. This resulted in the endorsement deal causing more buzz around Fargo-Moorhead than originally anticipated.

“My 7-year-old daughter spotted school classmates wearing Eagles jerseys. She told them, ‘I’m getting a jersey too because my dad works at the Carson Wentz bank,” Anderson said, with a laugh. “People see our logo and make the connection, which is what we want, but we also want people to still know us as BlackRidgeBANK.”

For GameDay Fridays, the bank ordered two official NFL jerseys free to each employee to wear on Fridays: one a Carson Wentz Eagles jersey and the other a custom-made BlackRidgeBANK jersey. The employees then switch between the jerseys each week—half of the employees wearing Carson Wentz and the other half wear BlackRidgeBANK. It’s a way for the bank to separate themselves from the NFL football player, while still keeping the connection with Carson Wentz and the giveaway of the signed NFL jerseys.
